FAIRHOPE, Alabama --- The 30th Annual Grand Festival of Art,
an Eastern Shore Art Center event, is scheduled for Oct. 5 and 6. The
Grand Festival committee is expecting a fabulous event this year.
It
is part of a weekend of seven great events — the 30th annual Grand
Festival of Art on Oct. 5 and 6; First Friday Art Walk on Oct. 5; the
Mullet Run, with a 5k and one-mile fun run on Oct. 6; the Alabama
Coastal BirdFest Bird & Conservation Expo on Oct. 6; the Grand
Festival of Books on Oct. 5, 6 and 7; the Mobile Symphony Orchestra
Woodwind Trio Concert at the Eastern Shore Art Center on Oct. 7; and a
free bluff-top concert from the Baldwin Pops Band on Oct. 7.
The
Grand Festival of Art takes place in downtown Fairhope on Fairhope
Avenue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free. The show
features more than 70 local, regional, national and international
artists. Visitors will find woodworking, blown glass, painting,
ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, photography and much more fine art and
fine crafts.
“Our
audience has the opportunity to interact with the artists, learn a
little about their inspiration and find out how the pieces are made,”
said Bob Young, co-chairman of the festival.
Artist
Joan Blackburn of Pensacola will award a total of $3,000 in cash prizes
for the Best of Show and first, second and third places.
Blackburn is a well-known Pensacola artist, teacher, juror and judge whose specialty
is water media abstracts and transparent watercolor still life, florals and landscapes.
More
than 20,000 visitors are expected to visit the Grand Festival of Art
over the two-day event. This year’s Grand Sponsor is Sandy Sansing Ford/
Lincoln of Daphne.
BancorpSouth
is the Tent Sponsor and Event Sponsors are Covenant Hospice and the
Alabama Tourism Department. In-Kind Sponsors include Publix and
Starbucks Coffee.
